Fundraiser for Mesoamerica- Hurricane Iota

While we are making plans to reunite with our family for the holidays, families in Mesoámerica are suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Iota on the heels of Hurricane Eta, the strongest hurricane to hit in the last 20 years. They are facing the agony of losing their loved ones and homes, not sure where the next meal will come from, or what their lives will look like.

This climate and man-made tragedy bring back overwhelming memories of what happened in my archipelago Puerto Rico; like Honduras and Guatemala, they have ultra-neoliberal governments that have shown no respect or commitment to the people. This government's commitment is with the interests of capital above life. As our partners in Central America say -" Only the People Save the People". Puerto Rico is the absolute example of this, and how community solutions such as mutual support and self-management save the people. This is the path for a just recovery and the way to win the self-determination of our peoples. In these critical moments, we have to stand up in solidarity with the Central American people impacted by hurricanes Eta and Iota. Our solidarity will define life or death- let's support them by contributing directly to grassroots groups and social movements organizing on the frontline now in this crisis and in the long term dismantling oppressive systems. They are the backbone of the change towards a just and dignified world.
